Community, Creativity, and Capturing Moments with M Photography

Behind the Lens of this Maricopa-Based Photography Business

By Heather Zielinski April 25, 2024

When you think of capturing precious memories, what comes to mind? For me, it's candid moments that tell a story, frozen in time, ready to be cherished forever. And who better to trust with those moments than a local gem like M Photography?

Bryan and Jenece Mordt, the creative minds behind M Photography, are turning snapshots into masterpieces. I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Jenece to dive into the world of M Photography, and let me tell you, their journey is as captivating as their photographs.

Let’s get this party started.

Rewind to the 90s, where Jenece found herself behind the lens for a magazine during her college years. Fast forward through the joys of raising a family, and enter Bryan, whose side hustle as a portrait and wedding photographer sparked a shared passion when they met in 2013. Cue the wedding bells in 2015, and M Photography was born.

Starting with humble beginnings of fall family portraits for neighbors and friends, their business bloomed into a kaleidoscope of creativity, encompassing everything from weddings and family portraits to newborn shoots and corporate events.

What sets M Photography apart from the crowd?

Their secret sauce lies in their motto: "easy peasy." With backgrounds in special education, Bryan and Jenece create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for their clients.

“We don’t have hard timelines for our sessions. Because of that, we can give children time to warm up or get out any wiggles,” explains Jenece. “We also understand how exciting it is to take portraits, and we strive to deliver to our clients within 24 hours of the portrait session. Most times we deliver the same day. For larger events, we can deliver within a week.”

Yup, you read that right. M Photography delivers amazing photos with a side of instant gratification. Who wouldn't want their portraits delivered within 24 hours?

So, how do Bryan and Jenece capture the essence of their subjects?

It's simple—by getting to know them. Whether it's chatting throughout the session or incorporating personal touches like props or hobbies, Bryan and Jenece ensure that each photograph tells a story as unique as the individuals in front of the lens.

Their commitment to the community goes beyond capturing moments—it's about giving back. Whether it's volunteering at Sensory Santa, the Israel Calderon Benefit Softball Tournament, or offering free trick-or-treat portraits at Halloween, Bryan and Jenece are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those around them.

Jenece's eyes light up as she recounts her favorite projects. From traveling with the American Taekwondo Association to capturing the essence of seniors and newborns, each moment holds a special place in her heart. But it's the weddings that really get her excited—being entrusted with immortalizing such a significant day for their clients is a privilege they don't take lightly.

So, what's their secret to staying on top of trends in the ever-evolving world of photography?

Constant learning and a dash of YouTube magic. By keeping their finger on the pulse and staying open to new ideas, Bryan and Jenece ensure that their work is always fresh and innovative.

“We take pride in what we do. We strive every day to improve our skills, and give our clients the best experience. We really do want to be your everything photographer,” shares Jenece. “We also take requests. For example, we had clients ask to use colored chalk in a chalk fight for family portraits and they came out really cool!”

Weddings, events, and holidays: M Photography puts the extra in special occasions.

Holidays and special events provide the perfect backdrop for capturing treasured moments that last a lifetime. Whether it's the cozy warmth of fall for Christmas or holiday card portraits, the excitement of spring for graduation snapshots, or the joyous celebration of a special birthday party, each occasion is an opportunity to create lasting memories.

Booking early is key, especially during peak seasons like fall and spring. Remember, if you’re going to use the photos in an invite, announcement, or Christmas card to build in time for printing and mailing.

Jenece explains, “If there’s a specific date a client needs coverage, booking sooner is always best.”

And, she encourages anyone looking to book for a special occasion to ask questions. From location, to outfits, to the best first look ideas, they will be there to help you if you have any questions at any point during the process and beyond.

Advice from the pros: five tips for improving your photography skills as a parent.

Jenece leaves us with some pearls of wisdom for aspiring photographers and parents alike.

  1. Look for different angles.
  2. Get down on the same eye level as your child (or lower).
  3. Look for plain backgrounds, and nothing in the background sticking out of heads and such.
  4. Plain colors are best, logos and patterns can be distracting.
  5. Don’t stress. The more the photographer stresses, the more the subject stresses. If you’re trying to take pictures of your child and they aren’t in the best mood, wait. Or you can make it into a game, have them sing their favorite song, or give you silly faces. Most of the time those are the best portraits.

Turn moments into memories.
